O tii in mana?

EN: I know it’s winter and I’m pretty skimpily dressed in these photos, but don’t worry, I haven’t gone (completely) crazy (… said she while rocking back and forth and staring blankly at the laptop :)): the pics were taken a few weeks ago, when it was still (relatively) warm.
Anyway, even though it may not be apparent in these photos (or at least I hope not, because that was the idea), I’m not actually bare-legged, but wearing fishnet tights. It was fellow blogger, wonderful writer and tights-hater Amber (of Forever Amber) who gave me the idea: unlike regular tights, fishnets are less annoying because, being more stretchy, they don’t fall prey to “the curse of the hanging crotch”, plus they let your skin breathe (so that nasty feeling of something synthetic stuck to your skin is somewhat diminished) and, bonus nr. 3, they aren’t shiny. All I have to do now is find the right shade of “nude”, as the ones I was wearing here are a little too light. (Translation: of course I’ll never find the right shade, so I’ll be forced to abandon this otherwise brilliant idea.)

I also want to emphasize that what I’m wearing is, contrary to what some of you may think, a dress, not a top – or at least it used to be a dress when I bought it last year from Asos; it’s just that it has shrunk quite a bit in the wash (either that, or the good life I’ve been living as a blogger has caused me to grow 10 cm taller since last winter; or the garden gnomes who live under my bed – because I live in a flat and don’t have a garden – had their way with it.)

As for the hat, I’ve had it for quite a few years, but this was only the second time I’ve ever worn it. Even though I love hats, I find them terribly impractical: I mean, what are you supposed to do with your hat it if you want to take it off (in a store, for instance)? Hold it in your hand? Carry it in a bag? It’s one of the great mysteries of my existence upon this earth and I hope the world isn’t going to end (as currently advertised) before I manage to sort it out :).

(An excuse to show you my) New Shoes

Pantofi-fantoma, buhuhu :)
EN: Ghost shoes :)

Rochie (de anul trecut)/// EN: Red poppy print shift dress: Dorothy Perkins (from last year);
Pantofi cu bareta, stil Mary Jane/// EN: High heel platform Mary Jane shoes: Shoe Art/ Darion Greece (magazin Shoe Art, AFI Palace Cotroceni/// EN: bought from a store in Bucharest; similar here and here; asemanatori aici);
Geanta de piele cu franjuri/// EN: Leather fringe across body bag: Asos;
Trenci (vechi)/// EN: Trench coat (old): Koton.

EN: Just like many of you, I imagine, I rarely manage to find in stores what I want, when I want it.
Shoes are a particularly tricky item for me to buy, as I am between sizes, so I’m usually faced with the option of either getting shoes that are a little to small (and thus pinch my toes) or shoes that are a little too big (which fall off my feet, especially when worn with tights). And there’s also my “favourite” situation, when shoes first kill my toes and then, after they’ve stretched a bit, start to fall off my feet :).

This year however I came up with the idea of buying high heeled Mary Janes (shoes that have a strap on the foot), which, besides being secure on your feet, have the added bonus of a retro vibe.
Of course, there’s a long way from having an idea to the real thing, so after a few strike-outs at my favourite shoe stores in Bucharest, plus Zara, Asos and Spartoo (besides the Mary Jane style, I also wanted the shoes to have a high heel and platform and a leather upper, not suede or patent – because I’m picky that way :)) I had resigned myself to the fact that it wasn’t meant to be and that my heeled brogues from Nine West (see them here) would have to make do this winter.

However, incredibly enough, the miracle happened and I managed to find my dream shoes (perfect shape/ height/ platform) in a store in Bucharest (they are by Greek brand Shoe Art/ Darion). Even though it’s been 2 weeks since I bought them, I still can’t get over how lucky I  was and I’m expecting to get hit by lightening or something, so that the amount of luck the universe bestows on me is somehow ballanced out :).

Autumn Cherries

Rochie cu talia joasa, in dungi/// EN: Stripe drop waist dress: Topshop UK;
Geanta cu franjuri/// EN: Leather fringe across body bag: Asos;
Cizme “de vara” bej (nude) din piele perforata/// EN: Beige (nude) perforated leather boots: Migato (le am de anul trecut din Atena/// EN: I bought them last year in Athens);
Pandantiv/ breloc cu cirese, din piele/// EN: Leather cherries pendant/ keyringhttp://www.shop-style.ro;

EN: Before I saw the photos I took for this post, I used to consider this Topshop dress one of my favourite casual pieces – it’s loose, comfy and it doesn’t wrinkle, just my kind of dress. After seeing the pics though… I’ll probably never wear the darn thing again: at least 90% of the photos must be hidden from all human eyes, because I look like a refrigerator (a striped refrigerator, that makes you dizzy) :D. In fact, had it not been for the beautiful landscape, which I thought it would be a shame to waste, I probably would have never published this post at all.
Well, at least now I feel more motivated to lose some weight. (By the way, I was thinking today that my motto could be: “Raluca (that’s my name :D): trying to lose weight since 1992.” Yes, really!)
I’ve been trying to comfort myself with the thought that maybe, just maybe, the dress looks better in movement, but the truth is I did notice that this kind of  shape doesn’t look all that great even on the Asos models, so in the future I’ll be sure to steer clear of similar designs even though I do so love drop waist dresses (sigh!).

On a more positive note, I finally got the (brilliant, never been done before) idea to use a book as a prop, in a quest to achieve the “I’m not in fact posing prettily for the camera, but oh, just going about my day as usual while somebody just happens to take photos of me” effect.

Because I knew there would be a lake, I chose “Three Men in a Boat” (ok, so the book takes place on the river Thames, not a lake, I don’t have a boat and there’s just two of us, not three – me and my mom, that is -, but there is some similarity, isn’t there :D?). It’s one of my all time favourite books, which will never cease to make me laugh and which reminds me of childhood holidays spent at my grandparents’, where I first read it, many moons ago.
