(Si Oscar e bine mersi, apropo, ba chiar si-a deschis restaurant :D).

EN: It’ll spoil the magic of the last pic, but I simply must complain that the photo session for this post was not a pleasant one: first of all because of the “fauna” of illegal swimmers in the Tineretului lake (and when I say “fauna” I don’t mean turtles unfortunately); secondly, while I was prancing about in the field I got stung by some blogger-unfriendly insects or nettles, the less than attractive result being some itchy scratch marks. Glamour indeed.

But enough with the whining and let’s pass on to the serious stuff, meaning my outfit.

I bought this Motel dress last year and what I especially like about it is the cut out back and the comfy elastic waist. It looks a lot like other dresses that I own (and which I’ve featured on the blog). However, unlike its cut out back sisters, I’ve actually worn this one to work, at my recruiter job, my personal feeling being that the cut out is not so obvious so as to be indecent (of course I tried to face my candidates at all times and not turn my back to them :D). And yes, I admit that my opinions regarding proper workwear may be just a tiny bit lax :D.

The one small downside to this dress is that it has a high risk of underwear flashing incidents, as you can see in one of the pics, so generally I try to avoid it on windy days.

I’ve had the cork wedge leather sandals from Bata for at least 5 years, which makes them the oldest pair of footwear still in active service that I own. They are very comfortable and light and have kept incredibly well considering how much I’ve worn them. Ohhh… the memories we share…Some of them happy memories, from really great holidays to Corfu and Rhodes, others more of a painful kind – such as the undying memory of one of my former boss’s spitz pomeranian dog Oscar, who bit my toe which subsequently bled in the sandal for half an hour. And yet they’re still hanging on, poor old dears! (and the pleasant natured Oscar is still fine by the way).

Rochie/ Dress: Motel Rocks (Asos); (Gasiti acelasi model de rochie dar cu un imprimeu retro trandafiri aici/// EN: You can buy this dress in a different, retro-inspired rose print here);

EN: Ive been talking so much about cateye sunglasses lately that I thought it’s high time I practice what I preach and took mine out for a spin. (I bought the sunglasses that I’m wearing here last year from Asos and they’re out of stock, but here you can find a list of very nice options that are currently available).

I was inspired to wear them by the lovely weather we had on Monday (which was also a holiday here in Romania, yey!) and by the Motel dress, which, I like to think, has a little bit of a ’50s air to it, due to the sweetheart neckline with buttons and the wide shoulder straps. (I realize of course that it’s MUCH, much shorter than any dress in that period; in fact I think it’s one of the shortest dresses that I own, but at least, due to its tulip shape, I don’t risk Marilyn Monroe moments when I’m wearing it :D).

Because I have again mentioned the ’50, I’m taking this opportunity to confess that I have an obsession with the ’20s (I can’t wait for The Great Gatsby movie to be finally released, so that I can find the perfect flapper dress!) and the ’50s and ’60s, so I intend to take inspiration from these periods for many more posts to come. (And since I’m talking fashion likes, here’s also a dislike: you’ll never see me wear tights as pants – or probably pants for that matter :D -, so at least you know what to expect. You’ve been warned :D).

The Wall

Rochie cu spatele gol si guler Peter Pan/ Cut out back stripe dress with Peter Pan collar: Asos (o rochie care are acelasi design, dar este din poliester, iar a mea din bumbac, poate fi inca gasita aici/ the same design but in a different colour, pattern and material – polyester instead of cotton – can still be found here)
Sandale nude de piele cu talpa ortopedica/ Leather wedge sandals (old): Joy Wendel – le am de cativa ani, cand brand-ul a existat si in Romania
Geanta din lemn – no name, o am de acum cativa ani din Palma de Mallorca/ Wooden bagno name, I bought it several years ago in Palma de Mallorca

Maybe you’ve recognized the dress, it’s exactly the same design as the one in The Red Dress post. That’s because when I really like something (shall we say… a dress), I tend to buy it in more than one colour if available. (I sometimes do the same thing when I can’t decide between colours. Because I am a strong woman, who wants to live with no regrets :D).

Just as the polka dot dress (featured here), this striped beauty first stepped out into the world on the occasion of this photo session, as it’s one of my most treasured buys from this autumn’s Asos sales.

As I found that both the dress and the bag have a certain retro vibe, I thought I’d post some of the photos in black and white and vintage 60’s. Anyway I’m really pleased with myself that I’ve finally managed to get some use out of that wooden bag: although I’ve had it for several years, I’ve never worn it because I don’t find it very practical – and I doubt I’ll be wearing it in “real life” any time soon (I like BIG bags, bags in which you can stuff at least 1 kg of absolutely vital things :D).

Review: Zara Wooden Wedge Sandals

EN: I’m a HUGE fan of wedges (which I find to be the perfect compromise – if there is such a thing :D – between flattering footwear and shoes you can actually walk in), so I’m always on the hunt for the perfect pair. The perfect PAIRS to be more exact, because what I’m actually obsessed with is nude sandals and nude for bronzed skin is quite a different thing from nude for pre-summer holidays skin.

Yesterday I tried on these Zara wooden wedges in one of the local Zara stores and they do make your feet look good: it’s a high wedge (13,3 cm/ 5,24 inches), the colour is pretty (the perfect nude shade for my not yet bronzed skin) and the fact that they are a sort of hybrid between wedges and high heeled sandals makes them a bit more elegant and delicate a classic wedge. Plus they’re leather – which for me is sort of a must when it comes to shoes.

The CON is that they aren’t as comfortable as I would like to for a pair of sandals that I plan to walk in: they don’t seem to offer enough stability – it’s the combined fault of the rigid wooden sole (which I tend to avoid, even though I love the look of it) and of the ankle strap which makes me feel that I could fall off them at any time (plus it could mean swollen feet – especially if you make it too tight for fear of falling :D).

So in the end it was a NO for me, but if you like them, here they are on the UK Zara website, where you can buy them for 60£.
